Luminance coloured pencils and gold foil on Arches cotton archival paper
2025
“Ignis” is El-Khao’s visual anatomy of inner fire and subjective reality. Shaped like a heart and veiled in gold, it appears devotional at first glance — but step closer and it begins to unravel. Petals become flames. Branches twist into nerve endings. What seems whole is in fact a chorus of perspectives colliding at once.
This piece doesn’t offer a singular truth. Instead, it fragments, refracts, and recomposes — much like the way we each construct meaning from splinters of memory, bias, and hope. Among the three works, Ignis I is the most kaleidoscopic: a prism of contradictions where joy and ruin coexist, where perception is never fixed but always flickering.

About this work
“Ignis I” is the first and most faceted view in El-Khao’s Ignis triptych, a visual anatomy of inner fire and subjective reality. Shaped like a heart and veiled in gold, it appears devotional at first glance — but step closer and it begins to unravel. Petals become flames. Branches twist into nerve endings. What seems whole is in fact a chorus of perspectives colliding at once.
